Welcome to my new and exciting blog, where I will be recording my thoughts and experiences in the wide world of libraries! The title is a bit of a lie because I don't technically have my library degree yet, but "Librarian-in-Training at Large" seems rather tedious, and I should be wrapping that bad boy up at the beginning of August.
For now, the main focus of my blog will be my upcoming trip to Mississippi, where I will be assisting the Kemper-Newton Regional Library System by cataloging the contents of one of their smaller branches. This started as an off-hand joke with some of my library school cohort, but my brain has a tendency to take the crazy things that I say (without much thought) and turn them into an all-out scheme. Normally these schemes come to nothing, but this time I ran into someone who also has crazy schemes and the will to execute them. She is a member of my cohort, Meredith, and she is the director of KNRLS. If you happen to watch Parks & Recreation, she is the Leslie Knope of libraries (minus the hating libraries part of Leslie).
So, now, here I am. About to embark on an unexpected adventure in a faraway mystical land that I have only heard stories of.
For more information about the project (or if you want to support me!) visit my gofundme page.
